Why Hurricanes Don't Hit Citrus Hills

Updated: Oct 15, 2023

Mike Dabb, retired FAA Air Traffic Specialist explains why hurricanes don't hit Citrus Hills. Mike was trained weather observer and was trained by the National Weather Service to brief pilots on the weather and its impacts. Before we moved to The Villages of Citrus Hills, Mike researched hurricanes in this area, as hurricanes are a major concern for Florida. What he discovered was that the area's unique geographical location is the reason why hurricanes don't hit Citus Hills. Typically hurricanes hit north or south of Citrus County.
